Being special education teachers, it became obvious to us one day that there was a missing step in teaching. Up until this time, questions with multiple-choice answers have proven a practical and substantial method of teaching students. However, frequent news reports on television and in the newspapers have stated that student scores have been low and some students have not graduated with a diploma due to low test scores. It was due to all these facts that we invented a modification of the multiple–choice answer work sheet.

The Green Light Go!™ device is designed to reinforce correct answers. This is accomplished by incorporating the three learning styles: visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), and kinesthetic (tactile). The device is a thin plastic pad, with a slot for the individual multiple-choice answer cards, what we call Ed-U-Cards™.

The battery operated device is first switched on (6 VDC). The Ed-U-Card™ is placed in the slot and the two probes are each picked up and held in the operator’s hands. One probe is used to choose a question and the other probe is utilized to choose an appropriate answer. Incorrect answers cause no response from the unit. The correct answer(s) cause a variety of positive reinforcements for the student.

The first response is the “CORRECT” green-light at the top-center of the unit. This indicates to the student that they have correctly answered the question. Next, the multiple green-lights on all four sides of the unit illuminate to reinforce that the student has a correct answer. Further, the student uses the probes to associate questions and answers. This further reinforces association of questions and answers. Lastly, the unit is quipped with a speaker, and is programmed with a recording. The device will emit “YOU ARE CORRECT” when the correct question and answer are connected. This auditory response can be turned off for classroom work where this action would be a distraction for other students.

The unit is battery powered, with rechargeable batteries recommended. A UL-approved 6VDC transformer is available, if desired. The unit is also compatible with the power adapters from other popular learning tools (be sure to check the voltage before using a power supply not purchased from us).
